Ngunguru
'Great/safe for the Kids'

This is the east coast lop from Whangarei to the riverside village of Ngunguru, the sheltered natural harbour of Tutukaka and the beautiful beaches beyond. Ngunguru Village is where the road meets the coast.

Ngunguru offers; a safe swimming estuary which includes beautiful private bays. Pippi collecting, kayak hire, guided estuary tours, a sports complex which includes a 9 hole golf course, and tennis court.

Tutukaka is located just 5 minutes drive over the hill from Ngunguru.

By night or day dine in Salt Air Cafe or Greens restaurant, these establishments are highly recommended and within a 5 min stroll. A gift shop, takeways and dairy is also located closeby. Over the hill at Tutukaka includes Restuarants; Schnapper Rock Cafe, Oceans Resort and Marina Pizzeria bar and grill.

 

A boat ramp is located just around the corner from the studio at Ngunguru, for the smaller runabouts. And over the hill at Tutukaka is large vessle ramp. A ski lane is open for water skiing and jet skiing in Ngunguru.

Tutukaka is the gateway to the Poor Knights Islands, 14 miles off the coast (40mins by boat). These islands, a wildlife reserve above water and a marine reserve below, provide a unique range of flora, fauna and fishes in a dramatic setting, and are regarded as one of the worl's top five dive spots. Recent additions to the underwater playground off the coast are two ex-naval ships sunk to make artificial reefs, the former research ship 'Tui' and ex-combat frigate 'Waikato'. The waters of the Poor Knights are famous for big game fishing.
Various dive and fishing charters are available from Tutukaka as well as a boat ramp for your craft.
